I graduated from Salem in 2009. The campus is gorgeous and the student-teacher ratio is awesome. I did have my own personal challenges while I was there, but ultimately Salem gave me all the tools and resources I needed to continue on with a successful career. Salem’s goal of building strong women, though seen as a positive to those of us in the “adulting” world, has had its challenges within the institution. Being a small school, a small voice within the student body can gather traction quickly. Some issues from the past year (2017/2018) I would agree with, others I would not. Please do your research and remember that the loudest reviews are going to be the most negative. I’m looking forward to seeing how Salem evolves in the next 10 years. Proud alum here. 😊 Edited to add: the review about the “hazing” is dedicated to one night of the entire year, the same night, every year. It is a “senior wakeup call”. There is plenty of notice given to the student body and students may plan to leave the campus during this time (classes are canceled the entire next day for the greatest event of the year, Fall Fest!). |
I love Salem College. Having went to the school as a Continuing Studies student I witnessed nothing but the very best from this college. Everyone was always willing to help to welcome me to the college and I not only made a lot of friends but an extended family. The schedule was very flexible and Salem always worked hard in the inclusion of everyone no matter where you come from and no matter your background. I have nothing but praise for my old alma mater and encourage all that is looking for a great place to obtain a degree to seek this institution. |
Salem is a good school, but it has its issues. Academics and professors are great, and the campus traditions are cute. The housing, on the other hand, is less than stellar. The food could definitely be better, but it’s not terrible. The community and campus life are not like how they’re portrayed to incoming first years; everyone is nice, but it can get very cliquey. Overall, it’s a good school that, despite its issues, can offer many opportunities for community involvement and individual attention.Sophomore |
The longest running all women's college in the nation, founded in 1772. With a spirit of sisterhood, female empowerment, and Moravian faith values, this school is the perfect place for individualized academic growth within a tight-knit community. |
My daughter is a Senior here and we would not have her attend any where else. Classes are small and the staff and teachers really care about the students. I love visiting because of all the old building and the very rich history of the area. |
I'm an alumn of Salem College. I love this school with all my heart! There is a strong sisterhood that one cannot describe. I absolutely wouldn't change a thing about my experience there. As for the complaint about no air conditioning, the school was founded in 1772. The buildings were constructed in the 1800s and 1900s. Students have always been allowed to have window units in their rooms and the majority of the classrooms and public spaces have central air. Feel free to go study in the brand new $7million student center and use the wifi.Alum |
Salem is a really great school! However there have been issues with student living conditions, and school funding. Things are improving though!Junior
